At Nature Strong, we believe that the majority of women want to look better, feel better and age more gracefully. They want to become ideal Hormonal Specimens and for this very reason, we created Female Balance.

The female hormonal cycle has been disrupted by the chronic use of medication, contraception, environmental toxins, and other factors. This has forced many women to have become dependent on medication and exogenous hormones to manage symptoms instead of treating the problem. Others have been told to just accept the monthly rollercoaster. Few ever get the guidance they deserve to optimise this metabolism and balance their hormones.

The biggest danger with the oestrogen metabolism is that is has many harmful potential by-products which will be more prevalent in women who are stressed, taking medication, or not eating the right foods or following the correct lifestyle. There are 2 dangerous pathways of oestrogen, called 4OH and 16OH, which on average are overactive in most women. These pathways do not only cause inflammation, but they are a direct precursor for cancer and other diseases. This is the main reason why breast cancer is so prevalent in women.

The goal of our formula is inhibiting enzymes who shuttle oestrogen down those harmful metabolic pathways and increase enzyme activity of pathways which are protective and harmless, such as the 2OH oestrogenic metabolic pathway.

Not only that but it also supports other processes involved in the natural fluctuation of hormones throughout the female cycle.

It gets even better! Women's thyroid hormones are easier affected then men's due to our bodies reproductive system. Our bodies are more prone to reduce thyroid metabolism when in caloric deficit or during nutrient deficiencies. Many women experience long term thyroid problems especially when trying to achieve weight loss. The long term effects of a caloric deficit are experienced much more severely and that is why our Women's Health product Female Balance contains a truck-load of nutrients supporting a healthy thyroid!

Oestrogen Metabolism

You can see that there are a lot of chemical reactions involved in the production as well as the metabolism of oestrogen. Each of these steps require specific nutrients (trace elements, vitamins, minerals..) and enzymes are involved in each of these reactions.

You can also see that each type of oestrogen as well as each metabolite of oestrogen has a different estrogenic activity. This is very important to manage to avoid health issues and reduce long term health risks such as breast cancer and other serious diseases!

  • Vitex Agnus Cactus

Vitex agnus-castus, also known as chasteberry or chaste tree, is an herb that has been traditionally used to support women's health. While its exact mechanisms are not fully understood, some studies and traditional uses suggest that it may play a role in estrogen metabolism and women's health in the following ways:

    1. Regulation of Hormonal Balance: Vitex is believed to influence the activity of the hypothalamus and pituitary glands, which are crucial in regulating hormone production. It may help balance the ratio of estrogen to progesterone, promoting overall hormonal balance.
    2. Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Regulation: Vitex is thought to influence the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH). LH plays a role in the menstrual cycle by triggering ovulation and the subsequent release of progesterone. By modulating LH levels, vitex may help regulate the menstrual cycle.
    3. Prolactin Regulation: Elevated levels of prolactin can disrupt the normal menstrual cycle and contribute to conditions such as amenorrhea (absence of menstruation). Vitex has been suggested to have a mild inhibitory effect on prolactin secretion, potentially helping to normalize levels.
    4. Management of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): Vitex is commonly used to alleviate symptoms associated with PMS, such as breast tenderness, mood swings, and irritability. Its ability to modulate hormonal balance may contribute to its effectiveness in managing these symptoms.
    5. Menstrual Irregularities and Menopause Support: Vitex is often used to address menstrual irregularities, including conditions like oligomenorrhea (infrequent menstrual periods). Additionally, some women use vitex during the menopausal transition to help manage symptoms associated with hormonal changes.
    6. Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Properties: Some studies suggest that vitex may possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These properties could contribute to its overall supportive effects on women's health.
  • Indole-3-Carbinol

Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is a compound found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts. However due to these plant foods containing high amounts of defense chemicals its not ideal to try and get adequate amounts of I3C from these foods as the amount of carcinogen compounds you would consume additionally would be quite high, therefor it's better to use a supplement with the I3C extracted from the plants. It has been studied for its potential impact on estrogen metabolism and women's health. Here are some of the roles attributed to indole-3-carbinol:

    1. Estrogen Metabolism: Indole-3-carbinol is believed to influence estrogen metabolism by promoting the conversion of estrogen into less potent forms. It is thought to shift the metabolism of estrogen away from the more potent 16-hydroxyestrone form towards the less potent 2-hydroxyestrone form. This shift is considered beneficial as high levels of 16-hydroxyestrone are associated with an increased risk of certain estrogen-related conditions.
    2. Hormonal Balance: By modulating estrogen metabolism, indole-3-carbinol may contribute to maintaining hormonal balance. It is particularly of interest in conditions where hormonal imbalance, such as estrogen dominance, is a concern.
    3. Breast Health: Some studies suggest that indole-3-carbinol may have protective effects on breast tissue. It is thought to help maintain healthy breast cells and reduce the risk of estrogen-related breast issues.
    4. Detoxification Support: Indole-3-carbinol has been proposed to support the liver's detoxification processes. The liver plays a crucial role in metabolizing and eliminating hormones, including estrogen. By supporting liver function, indole-3-carbinol may indirectly contribute to estrogen balance.
    5. Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Effects: Indole-3-carbinol exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Inflammation and oxidative stress can contribute to various health issues, including those related to women's health. The compound's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects may play a role in its overall health-supportive properties.
    6. Menstrual Health: Some research suggests that indole-3-carbinol may help regulate the menstrual cycle and alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Its ability to modulate estrogen metabolism may contribute to these effects.
  • Sulforaphane Glucosinolate

Sulforaphane glucosinolate (SGS) is a compound found in cruciferous vegetables, particularly broccoli and broccoli sprouts. Sulforaphane, which is derived from SGS when these vegetables are chewed or chopped, has been the subject of research for its potential impact on estrogen metabolism and women's health. Here are some roles attributed to sulforaphane and its precursor SGS:

    1. Estrogen Metabolism: Sulforaphane and SGS have been studied for their potential to influence estrogen metabolism. Similar to indole-3-carbinol, sulforaphane is believed to promote the conversion of estrogen into less potent forms, specifically favoring the production of 2-hydroxyestrone over 16-hydroxyestrone. This shift is considered beneficial for maintaining a balanced estrogen metabolism.
    2. Anti-Cancer Properties: Some studies suggest that sulforaphane may have anti-cancer properties, including potential protective effects against estrogen-related cancers such as breast cancer. The compound is thought to act on multiple pathways involved in cancer development, including those related to estrogen.
    3. Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Sulforaphane exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These effects may contribute to its overall health-promoting properties, as oxidative stress and inflammation are linked to various health issues, including those related to women's health.
    4. Detoxification Support: Sulforaphane is known to support the body's detoxification processes, particularly in the liver. This may have implications for estrogen metabolism, as the liver is involved in the breakdown and elimination of hormones, including estrogen.
    5. Cardiovascular Health: Some research suggests that sulforaphane may have cardiovascular benefits. Cardiovascular health is closely linked to hormonal balance, and compounds that support overall health may indirectly contribute to women's well-being.
    6. Neuroprotective Effects: There is emerging research on the potential neuroprotective effects of sulforaphane. As hormonal changes can impact neurological health, these neuroprotective properties may have implications for women's health, especially during menopause.
  • Pomegranate Extract

Pomegranate extract has gained attention for its potential health benefits, and some studies suggest that it may have certain roles in estrogen metabolism and women's health. Here are some potential roles associated with pomegranate extract:

    1. Antioxidant Properties: Pomegranate extract is rich in antioxidants, particularly polyphenols such as ellagic acid and anthocyanins. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals in the body, which can contribute to oxidative stress. By reducing oxidative stress, pomegranate extract may support overall health, including aspects related to women's health.
    2. Cardiovascular Health: Some research indicates that pomegranate extract may have cardiovascular benefits, including improving cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Cardiovascular health is closely linked to hormonal balance, and compounds that support heart health may indirectly contribute to women's well-being.
    3. Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Pomegranate extract has been studied for its anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation can contribute to various health issues, and reducing inflammation may have positive effects on women's health, particularly conditions related to hormonal fluctuations.
    4. Potential Hormone Modulation: While research is ongoing, some studies suggest that pomegranate extract may have a modulatory effect on hormones. This includes the potential to influence estrogen levels. However, the specific mechanisms and implications for women's health are still being explored.
    5. Bone Health: Estrogen plays a role in maintaining bone density, and changes in estrogen levels can affect bone health, especially during menopause. Some studies have investigated the potential of pomegranate extract in supporting bone health, but more research is needed to establish a clear link.
    6. Menopausal Symptoms: Preliminary research suggests that pomegranate extract may help alleviate some symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes. The compounds in pomegranate extract may interact with hormonal pathways, but further studies are necessary to confirm these effects and understand the underlying mechanisms.
